The resentment Kaleb faced, from his own generation, for his duty as a combat Marine in Vietnam made him decide to backpack around the world, not knowing what he was looking for. But now it's time to go home.
As he hitchhikes from LA back to Texas, fate has other plans. Just outside of Tucson, a murder takes place, and the police say the slayer seen running away looks a lot like Kaleb—but Kaleb has an alibi. The young waitress who served him a meal at the time of the murder remembers him.
