Best known for his technically detailed espionage and military fiction and his bestselling video games (The Division and others), Tom Clancy (1947-2013) wrote his first novel, The Hunt for Red October, while working at an insurance agency. The book was praised by Ronald Reagan, and launched Clancy's immensely successful career. A number of books starring the character Jack Ryan have been adapted for film.
