Description: This is a reference and preparation book for the CCRN certification examination administered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The previous edition was published in 2010.
Purpose: The purpose is to prepare nurses for the CCRN exam and to provide a helpful resource for clinical practice.
Audience: The audience includes anyone contemplating taking the CCRN exam or working in critical care. The authors have excellent credentials and the collaborators are well respected.
Features: The book covers concepts related to the major systems — cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine, hematology, neurology, gastroenterology, renal and multiorgan problems — as well as professionalism and ethics. The pictures and graphics are excellent. The book is complete and well written. The questions are thoughtful and cover a wide range of conditions. The graphics and the questions are the best part of the book.
Assessment: This is an excellent choice for anyone interested in taking the CCRN exam or any critical care nurse wanting a reference. The book is thorough and complete, while easy to follow. The questions are nicely done. I like the scenario structure, which seems to be the direction of certification exams. This is great book for any critical care nurse and certainly a wonderful prep for the CCRN exam.
